Restorative Resources
Following is a list of practitioners who are available to enhance your retreat at The Guest House. Appointments can be guaranteed only when scheduled ahead of your visit. You are welcome to call the practitioner directly, or request my help with scheduling. I have experienced the work of each of these practitioners, and past guests have also confirmed the value of their service or practice.
SYNERGY Massage & Bodywork synergyrockland.com 7 blocks away. I work with Kristy Beverage, but there are several excellent practitioners. Several guests have even gone back for a second massage!
RHEAL DAY SPA "Healthy is Beautiful®!" www.rhealdayspa.com 6 blocks away. Wonderful spa treatments for skin, face, whole body. Relaxing setting and beautiful showering/changing rooms and lounge.
COPPOLA SALON AND DAY SPA 207-594-1200 christina@coppolasalon.com Right around the corner from Healing Soup, Coppola's offers all the services you might want: massage, pedicure, manicure, hair care. I had an especially long, soothing pedicure and foot/leg massage with Angie, while sitting in a chair that kneaded my back and shoulders the entire time. (You can turn it off when you wish.) The pedicures and manicures are done in a lovely, light room that is comforting. Reasonable prices.
YOGA at Lincoln Street Center, 6 blocks away. Rachel Nixon, certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor, offers both Vinyasa Flow and Gentle Yoga, weekly. Contact rachelnixon@gmail.com. I am someone who has struggled with yoga, yet, I am comfortable with Rachel's pacing and follow her permission to go at my own pace. Other teachers and classes available.
STUDIO 494 Route One, Thomaston. 10 minute drive. Michael Martineau, owner and stylist, has a way with styling and cuts that bring old clients from Portland to his door up here. Three years ago, Michael rescued my permed and yellowing hair; I will be forever grateful! Appointment ahead necessary.
CLAYWORKS NORTH. Tenants Harbor. 20 minute drive. Joyce Houston loves to teach you how to make use of her spacious clay studio on her own property. Go for a lesson, go for a day. Learning to make simple clay pinch pots brought me to a quiet center through working with my hands. Appointment ahead necessary 207-372-6286
STARFIRE STUDIO with Joy Vaughan. Check website. 1 hour away. Joy is both artist, dream worker and counselor. I spent a morning talking to her, and an afternoon playing with all the art supplies you can imagine in her light-filled incredible studio. Well worth the trip and time.
AVENA BOTANICALS avenabotanicals.com 20 minute drive. Botanical and body care products all made from wild plants grown at Avena's organic garden and other wild flora cultivators in Maine. Both their website and a catalogue is a beautiful education; a trip to their gardens and shop, however, is healing in itself.
