Restorative Play

"Deep play always involves the sacred and holy, sometimes hidden in the most unlikely or humble places."
from Deep Play by poet, essayist and naturalist,
Diane Ackerman

At The Guest House, Restorative Play refers to these deep experiences that are life-giving and open new dimensions of our relationship with the sacred. We notice that

  • Our attention is fully in the present.
  • Mental noise dies down.
  • We lose our sense of time.
  • Creativity seeps out in unexpected ways.
  • We feel more ourselves.
  • We know we are in touch with the sacred.

Light plays through the leaves of a tree, a melody plays through our memory or an image plays on the strings of our heart. Color, texture, images, sound, movement, texture, color or food are all mediums that can slide around our well-worn words and make a direct path to our core.

You are welcome to use simple materials or instruments waiting for you here, or bring those you like to have around you. There is also an art supply & stationary shop, bookstore, museum shop and toy store nearby, if you want to see where your intuition leads you.
